WHY FOSTER
Fostering is a life-saving endeavor. By volunteering to care for orphaned kittens or offering an adult dog respite from the kennel, you play a pivotal role in positively impacting the lives of animals in distress. Fostering addresses a crucial gap in the system, especially for young kittens who require more personalized care than can be offered in a shelter setting. Research has demonstrated that adult animals are adopted more expeditiously after a temporary hiatus from the shelter environment.
Our program equips you with comprehensive training, necessary supplies, veterinary care, and ongoing support. Your role is to provide a temporary, secure, and affectionate home for these animals in need. Together, we can make a significant difference in their lives.
LARGE DOGS
Presently, our greatest need is for foster homes for larger dogs. By committing to foster a large dog for a minimum of two weeks, you not only offer them a reprieve from the shelter but also contribute valuable insights into their behavior in a home setting. This information proves instrumental in our quest to match them with a forever home where they can thrive.
DOGS & CATS
Shelter Break:
You have the power to positively impact the life of a homeless pet by temporarily opening your home to a dog, cat, or rabbit. Fostering offers our longer-term residents a much-needed break from the kennel, while also supplying potential adopters with valuable insights into the pet's behavior in a home environment. We provide all the necessary supplies for your foster pet, and you can choose to foster for as little as a couple of days or as long as a few weeks.
Medical:
We regularly seek foster parents to assist animals in their recovery from injury or illness within a home setting. Our foster coordinator and medical team will collaborate with you to ensure you feel confident in providing the necessary at-home care for your foster pet. We supply all the required materials and medical treatments for your foster pet, and the recovery time varies based on the individual animal's needs.
Behaviour:
The shelter environment can be stressful, leading some pets to develop behaviors that hinder their chances of adoption. Collaborating with our training team, behavior foster parents offer a structured home environment to help pets flourish as they await a new permanent home.
Kittens & Puppies
Annually, Haven Pet Center receives numerous kittens requiring foster care. Orphaned kittens under two months old and nursing moms with litters typically spend 2 to 8 weeks in a foster home before they are ready for adoption.
Numerous foster kittens are already transitioning to solid food independently. Additionally, we are seeking foster parents capable of caring for bottle-fed babies, as these particularly delicate kittens demand round-the-clock feeding and attention that we are unable to provide at the center.
In some instances, we also have a need for foster homes for underage puppies and nursing cat and dog moms with litters. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these young animals at Haven Pet Center.
DOG FIELD TRIPS & SLEEPOVERS
If you're eager to provide a dog with a temporary escape from the shelter but cannot commit to a long-term foster arrangement, Pasadena Humane has two short-term foster programs that have demonstrated success in alleviating stress for dogs and expediting their journey to new homes.
Foster Sleepover
Extend an invitation to a shelter pup for a sleepover! Just two nights away from the shelter have been scientifically proven to significantly reduce stress levels in dogs, enhancing their adoptability upon their return. Sleepovers can be as brief as one night or as extended as a few nights. We furnish all the necessary supplies and support, while you contribute the fun!
Foster Field Trip
Embark on a short adventure with a shelter dog! Explore a local hiking trail, visit a pet-friendly business, or enjoy a leisurely afternoon stroll in the park. Our team will offer training and provide all necessary supplies, including a harness, leash, and "adopt me" accessories for the pup. Foster Field Trips are available by appointment only, providing a delightful way to enrich both your life and the canine companion's experience.
